Since it IS National Watermelon Day, why not celebrate with probably the best thing I’ve ever eaten?! Watermelon Margarita Granitas! Not only is it the easiest thing you could ever make but it’s a new twist on a classic margarita and I mean, who doesn’t love that? Plus this recipe makes a ton for a small amount of ingredients! WIN WIN!
I’ve been drooling over the idea of making granitas for a long time now but looking at them I always thought, that probably will take forever to make so I’m not doing it.
UM. WHAT WAS I THINKING.
This is the easiest thing I’ve ever done.
Not to mention I did it at 9am which in turn means taste testing of margaritas is required in the morning. HELLO BEST JOB EVER.
Let’s talk about a real serious lesson I learned while making these Watermelon Margarita Granitas. Place your rimmed cookie sheet INSIDE of the freezer before you pour the liquid in. If you saw me it was like an intense core stabilization workout that I was almost losing the entire time I was trying to transport it into the freezer. Like I didn’t even BREATHE.
But oh trust me it got there because this IS A MARGARITA PEOPLE! I’ll never do it that way again.
My grandpa always told me that if you don’t look at something while you’re walking, you never spill. Which really just means you didn’t know you spilled because you were looking away. Which sometimes I do that like today I was making skewers and soaked my skewer sticks in water on a cookie sheet and when it was time to dump the water across the room in the sink I tried his theory and what happened? Water. Everywhere.
So make sure you put yours in the freezer, learn from me because: LIQUID G.O.L.D.
These Watermelon Margarita Granitas take about 3 hours from start to finish unless you spread them on two cookie sheets it could take less time. Make sure to scrape mixture with a fork every 30 minutes until frozen through! It makes a ton so hop on the couch, get your favorite netflix binge watching on and dive face first into these addicting and oh so delicious Watermelon Margarita Granitas!

- 8 cups cubed watermelon
- 1 orange, juiced
- 4 limes, juiced
- 2 tbsp organic cane sugar
- 3/4 cup tequila
- Add all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend until completely smooth
- Place a large rimmed cookie sheet flat in the freezer*
- Pour mixture onto cookie sheet and freeze for 1 hour
- Using a fork scrape the mixture to create ice crystals and fluff up
- Freeze and scrape every 30 minutes until mixture is frozen through
- If you need to use smaller cups to pour the mixture onto the cookie sheet feel free otherwise if you have to pour before placing in the freezer be very careful not to spill!
